So, for two nights running, there was this cat mewling outside my window. Last night I went out and tried to see where she was (I live in the basement, and was afraid she might be stuck in my window well). I found the culprit, and she's just too young to be left alone.
And I have no idea who she belongs to. But it's November in Michigan, and it gets VERY cold, and well... if you let your cat loose out in conditions like this, you're not taking very good care of her.
So, dependant upon the landlord agreeing on Monday, I have a cat.
She's a very nice cat. And very smart. Heck even Dan likes her, and Dan isn't fond of cats. (See, Dan IS a cat. He doesn't like other cats in his territory.)
It's been three years since I've had a pet. And I really like this cat.
I think I'll call her Pixie. She's not quite the cat who walks through walls, but she does walk through beds.
We'll post pictures later.
It's a happy Thanksgiving here....

I really don't want to burst your bubble, but I have to say I think you should post some notices or something around your neighborhood before you officially adopt the kitty. She might be out because she just got out on her own. As it happens, Black Francis' new favorite pastime is bolting right past me as soon as I come in the door. I had another cat that used to do that very same thing, and it was only after we posted notices around town that we got him back. Also, my favorite cat when I was a kid was an unfixed tom. Even in the foulest of weather, he wanted to go out wandering, and it would've been a crime to keep him in. But he always came home.
Just something to think about.
take care

Actually have thought about it, Jones.
First off, this cat is YOUNG. She can't have gone far. And she was out two nights running. And when I went out to look for her, she practically came right up to me. Whoever lost her didn't look very damn hard for her.
Second, she's not a dart out the door type (believe me, I KNOW the type.) As a matter of fact, she's absolutely TERRIFIED of doors, and will hide in a corner when we come home until the bad door is closed.
And, quite frankly, I live in the sort of neighborhood where stray cats are common, and where household pets become strays very quickly.
I'm not into finder's keepers, but I really don't think that if she had a former "owner" it would be in her best interests to return her to them.

AWWW!!!
Actually, your kitty resembles my Zeeb, who was also a stray kitten from a litter by the dumpster behind work. I spent an hour lying in the gutter trying to get him out of the undercarriage and engine area of a car, only to have the car's owner (who worked at Starbucks) come out, pop the hood, and have that cat out in two seconds.
Congratulations on the new family member!
